  4. Entrance Slip Review List the three sections of your Cornell notes and what you would use them for. • Notes Section • Questions / Main Ideas • Summary

  7. Outline Method • Levels • Main level • New idea / topic • Very general • Supporting concepts • Applies to the level immediately above • As important as the concept right above • Repeat

  8. Outline Method • How do you ‘number’? • Roman numerals (I, II, III, IV, V, VI) • Letters (A, B, C, a, b, c) • Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) - Dashes ( - , --, ---) • Dots (o, •, ▪) • Arrows (→, >) • Choices are wide open

  9. Outline Method • Space indentation • Requires listening and writing in an organized manner • Method based on space indentation • Half-inch each new section • One tab if typing

  10. Outline Method • Advantages • Well organized • Records relationships and content • Reduces editing • Easy to review by turning main points into questions

  11. Outline Method • Disadvantages • More thought during class for accurate organization • Does not always show relationships by sequence • Doesn’t work well if lecture / video is fast paced.

  12. Outline Method • Write down only names in outline form • Here’s a story of a gal from Crane, MO named Janna Kay who got hitch to a dude from Ohio named William Wright. • About two years after they tied the knot, little Brian Wright came along. Then 18 months later, Jason Wright.

  13. Outline Method • Brian found his bride, Susan, in Germany then married her in 1999. • Together they had two daughters, Emily and Lily. • Emily has two pugs named Jack and Floyd; Lily has two pugs named Bean and Oliver.

  14. Adding to a Diagram • What is a trimmer? • Why is a trimmer added to an opening? • Where is it added? • Does your diagram include a trimmer? • Write trimmer clarification question. • Add a trimmer label to your diagram.

  15. Cornell Notes • Summary • Table share • Take four or five minutes • Talk with partner • Summarize the outline method on each of your Cornell notes summary section.

  16. Article Review • Communication Skills for Workplace Success. • Skim the article • Pick out three skills • Circle the bolded titles for those three skills • Read and outline those three skills

  17. Article Review • Communication Skills for Workplace Success. • Pair up with your table partner • Pick out one skill that neither of you choice previously • Underline that bolded title • Read and outline that skill together

  18. Class Clean Up • Complete your Exit Slip • Staple your papers: • Exit Slip on top • Cornell notes on bottom • Place class work in the desk basket. • Push your chairs in before you leave. • Leave your folders on your desks.
