PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL HOLINESS • The Bible teaches that holiness is one of the basic CHARACTERISTICS of God’s nature. • Personal holiness is absolutely essential in maintaining our SALVATION. • Holiness involves both the negative concept of SEPARATION and the positive concept of DEDICATION. 4. The power to live holy lives does not come from our flesh, but from the HOLY SPIRIT.
PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL HOLINESS • We are motivated to live holy lives not merely by enforced rules, but by our LOVE FOR GOD. 6. God gives us three HOLINESS TEACHERS to show us how to live a life that pleases Him: • The BIBLE • Spiritual LEADERSHIP • The HOLY SPIRIT 7. Our righteous works are not the MEANS of us receiving salvation, but they should be the RESULTS of us receiving it!
PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL HOLINESS 8. The Bible teaches that a genuine Christian will exhibit a noticeable witness when INTERNAL HOLINESS is present in the heart !

PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL HOLINESS • There are three types of holiness standards that God expects every MATURE Christian to adhere to: • BIBLE standards • CHURCH standards • PERSONAL standards
PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL HOLINESS 10. There are many levels of MATURITY in God’s family, just like a natural family, and each member is valuable to God in their present STAGE. • The more mature I become in my lifestyle of holiness, the more God can USE ME. • SUBMISSION to spiritual guidance is an important part of my growth in holiness.

501 Course Class 3
Because men and women were created differently, the Bible places emphasis on their unique “problem areas” in its holiness teachings. Women are instructed to APPEAR a certain way so that men are not tempted, while men are instructed to ACT a certain way so that women are not tempted. Appearance, Adornment & Dress
1 Timothy 2:7-10 (KJV) -- 7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in MODESTapparel, with SHAMEFACEDNESS and SOBRIETY; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Appearance, Adornment & Dress
I Peter 3:1-7 • Notice God’s DIVINE ORDER. • The admonition is against being LAVISH OR EXTRAVAGANT. Appearance, Adornment & Dress
I will exhibit self-control and MODERATION in all aspects of life. • I will not love the things of this WORLD. • I will be a good STEWARD of the blessings God has bestowed, including financial blessings. • I will not reflect a FALSE set of values. • I will be CONTENT with the way God has made me and the position in which I find myself. Personal Conviction
Modesty and Moderation • Back to the ORIGINAL • Immodesty has EVIL associations. Standards for Living
Outward Adornment & Moderation • The Bible always associates the use ofMAKEUP with wicked and immoral women. • The Bible frequently associatesJEWELRY with a proud attitude, an immoral lifestyle, or pagan worship. Standards for Living
Practical Application … • True adornment in the sight of God and godly men is HOLINESS OF SPIRIT, not physical beauty. • Christians should not place UNDUE EMPHASIS on physical beauty, but should accept whatever God has given us. • Christians should seek to present ourselves as best we can, usingNATURALmethods. Standards for Living
Questions to consider… Standards for Living • What is my MOTIVEfor wearing it? Do I wear it out of pride, show, a desire to be noticed, a desire to provoke envy? • Is this wise STEWARDSHIPon my part? How does it compare with the time and money I spend for necessities, for others, for God’s church?
How do OTHERS VIEW it? Do they see it as flaunting wealth, showy, a manifestation of pride, or an object of envy? Do they see it as inconsistent with the Bible’s stand and my own stand against ornamentation in general? • WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? Would He wear it? Would He spend His time and money in this fashion? Standards for Living
Separation from the World • For Christians to exist as a chosen group of people, there must be points of SEPARATION, both external and internal. • In line with this principle of separation, there are certain things which we should avoid, simply because they IDENTIFY us with ungodly elements of the world. • Remember, a person’s appearance and • dress tells much about his LIFESTYLE, BELIEFS, AND ATTITUDES. Standards for Living
Separation from the World • Be careful of the LATEST FASHIONSor fashions associated with certain GROUPS of people. • Ask yourself if this is a GOOD WITNESSof your Christianity to sinners. • Also, the spirit of COMPETITION can get a hold on us. Standards for Living
Separation from the World • 4. Separation from the world means that we have to DRAW LINESin order to avoid all such identification with the world. Standards for Living
