Meet Step Intuit Problem: • People want to exercise but… • too much time • too much planning • too much effort Solution: • An automated, motivational pedometer • Prompts you to walk, not drive • Suggests new destinations and routes
Overview • What Step Intuit helps you do: 3 representative tasks • How it evolved throughout the quarter • What it does now – our hi-fi prototype • But it’s not quite perfect… • Wrap up and questions
Task 1 – Set a Goal • Get pedometer • Determine step length and daily average • Add 200-1000 steps to the average • Customers would like this process to take as little effort as possible.
Task 1 – Set a Goal X http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/residents/borrowpedometer
Task 2 – Walk, Don’t Drive • Travel by car to destination less than two miles away • Get prompt asking if you want to drive next time • Chance to save route and set reminder X
Task 3 – Check Progress and Achieve Goal • Check step count – not quite to goal • Walk…somewhere… • Check step count again – goal attained www.germes-online.com
Task 3 – Check Progress and Achieve Goal “Gabriella checks her progress and notices she’s still 1000 steps from reaching her daily goal. She searches for a destination at least 1000 steps away and walks there. Once she gets to the destination, she sees that she has reached her goal.” Yes!

What is Missing • Testing with the right users! • Estimating travel times • More motivating counters (Gas, Calories, etc.) • Walking progress on Home screen map • General tips on how to incorporate more steps
Summary • Step Intuit, the motivational pedometer • Iterative prototyping: sketch early and often, in teams, and listen to your customers (and experts) • Our hi-fi prototype is ready for your test run!
