  2. About Warrandyte Community • Extreme Bushfire Risk • Residential area surrounded by Warrandyte State Park • 3 distinct communities in the area • Warrandyte; Nth Warrandyte & Sth. Warrandyte • Hilly & Bushy topography • 1962 last major bushfire event

  3. Project Background What is Be Ready Warrandyte? • Warrandyte Community Association (WCA) • Received funding from Dept. Planning & Com. Development – Fire Ready Communities Grant • Project Officer appointed (paid role) • WCA developed plan with project officer

  4. A DVD? Why? • Improve effective bushfire planning • One of many tools by Be Ready Warrandyte • Scenario planning • Sample bushfire plan • Provide local focus – relevant to community • Deliver outcomes from Community Survey

  5. How Much & How Long? • Used local Amateur theatre group (free!) • Supported by local CFA – Capt. Greg (free!) • Initial quote from local production company $14,000 • Final “goodwill” quote $6,000 • Conception to final upload 6 months!

  6. Collaboration! How was CFA involved? • Part of the advisory committee • Support from local brigades & regional HQ • Provided bushfire advice • Strong support for local community initiatives

  7. Lessons Learned… • Contain footage until ready to launch • “pulled it down”, needed DPCD sign off • Negative feedback…expected • Positive feedback…expected • Going viral…unexpected!

  8. Friendly Advice… • Professionally made • Local media relationship • Keep it local • Real data to support • Have a paid person to co-ordinate • COLLABORATE WITH MANY!
