  7. 2011-2012 School Year • Most Grade 7 Students will take Pre-Algebra in heterogeneously grouped classes • The Pre-Algebra A course will not be offered • Grade 8 Pre-Algebra B will incorporate algebra concepts to begin preparing students for the Grade 9 Keystone Exam • Professional development continues to be provided for instructional planning and pacing to address needs

  8. 2012-2013 School Year • Algebra I content will be spread out over 2 years (Grade 8 & 9) Keystone Exam • The Grade 8 “Pre-Algebra B” course will be called “Algebra 1A” • Algebra 1 will continue to be offered in Grade 8 as an Honors Level course Keystone Exam • Professional development will continue to provide support for math instructional planning and preparation

  10. 2011-2012 School Year • Start the transition to incorporate Standards for Mathematical Practice • Continue professional development for instructional planning and sequencing • Start discussions to prepare for the Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry Keystone Exams {currently on hiatus for the 2011-2012 school year}

  11. 2012-2013 School Year • Grade 9 students who fail Grade 8 Algebra IA will need to repeat Algebra IA. • Students who pass Algebra IA will progress into Algebra IB. These students will participate in the Keystone Exam. • The “Algebra Seminar” course will transition into “Algebra IA with a lab component”

  12. 6th Grade Math Pre-Algebra Pre-Algebra Algebra 1 Honors Algebra 1 A Algebra 1 Honors Algebra 2 Honors Geometry CP Geometry CP Algebra 1 B Geometry Honors Algebra 2 Honors Math Flowchart and Course Descriptions 6th Grade 7th Grade 8th Grade 9th Grade • Prognosis testing is used to place students in middle school math. • Students in an above-level math class may need to re-take a class if • grades are C or lower. • Keystone exams are given after completion of Algebra 1 B, Algebra 1 • (CP or Honors), Geometry (CP or Honors) and Algebra 2 Honors.
