In studying ‘Place’ in geography, the physical characteristics (the way it looks) of the country are considered • Examples: - What are the major geographic features of Canada? - Is the land flat or hilly? - Are there rivers, lakes or oceans?
By describing the landscape and climate of Canada, a clearer picture of what the people of Canada have had to endure to carve their country out of the wilderness can be visualized.
Also considered in place geography are human characteristics. • This includes looking at the 2 founding peoples and how they shaped our country • A study of other ethnic groups within the country would also help give a clearer picture of what is Canadian
Looking at the work of noted artists such as Emily Carr and the Group of Seven allows Canada to be seen through the eyes of Canadians.

Here are some questions to consider when place geography of a country is being studied: What do you see? What does the land look like? What do the people look like? What smells do you smell? What sounds do you hear?

PPt Project • Groups of 3 students will create a PowerPoint Presentation on the physical region given them by the teacher. Class time will be provided; be sure to use it well.
