What is the Difference? College Certification and PAVRO Certification
BOTH are EQUALLY important! College Certification and PAVRO Certification
Volunteer Administrators: • First complete a college Certification program (not required for employment) • Continue professional development • Maintain a certification, such as CVRM with PAVRO, while being a volunteer administrator (not required for employment) • Nurses: • First complete a college/university Degree program to be able to work as a nurse in Ontario • Continue professional development • Maintain an Association annually with the College of Nurses to continue to work in Ontario
In the province of Ontario, PAVRO exists as the professional association for those who engage volunteers. It consists of like-minded people who are passionate about engaging volunteers. PAVRO provides opportunities to network, share ideas, training, etc. Just as with other associations, membership fees are paid to belong to this group. It is not mandatory to join PAVRO but many professions have two levels of performance, you get educated and then you practice (join an association) in your field.
Gaining PAVRO CERTIFICATION, (done every 3 years) helps keeps you up to date and current once you are in the profession. It recognizes that things change, that you need to keep sharp and that you are on the leading edge of your field.
Get a certificate in Volunteer Management from a recognized college and then join PAVRO to help you stay current and connected. We need both to assist the continued development of the profession: Volunteer Manager

PAVRO Certification Certificate in Volunteer Resource Management Demonstrate your professional excellence and achieve the CVRM designation
PAVRO Certification (CVRM) is: • Meaningful - Standards that go beyond provincial to reflect national standards • Appropriate - Streamlined and concise requirements • Efficient - No requirements that involve traveling • Effective - Certified members are recognized for their achievements • Value added - Employers increasingly recognize the importance of certification as a means of hiring the specific talent they are looking • Motivating - Recertification is required every three years giving you the incentive to continue your education and stay current in best practices in volunteer engagement
What members have to say – "In today's world, the competition for talent is fierce. When I'm looking to hire a Volunteer Engagement professional, I look for candidates who are PAVR-O members to demonstrate their commitment to their profession, and for the CVRM designation, as a sign that the candidate has proven a solid foundation of knowledge, skill and experience that will allow them to contribute directly to my organization's mission." -Erin Spink, M.A., Manager of Volunteer Engagement and Branches, Ontario, Canadian Diabetes Association
What members have to say – “I’m really proud to have achieved and maintained my CVRM. My confidence has increased because I know I have the skills to do my job well.
