  1. History Workshop: “Borders In Europe” Past and Present

  2. In this workshop, we have studied borders. • Many kinds of borders exist: • In Europe • Between nations • Between people • …and within people

  3. Europe In 1328

  4. The EU Today From six founder members in 1952, the EU has expanded to twenty five countries in 2004, and more states have already applied or are due to apply for membership. Finland Sweden Estonia Latvia Ireland Denmark Lithuania U.K Netherlands Poland Germany Belgium Luxembourg Czech Rep. Slovakia France Austria Hungary Slovenia Portugal Spain Italy Greece Cyprus Malta

  5. We all looked at a single concept to do with issues that create ‘barriers’ within our minds.

  6. COMMUNICATION

  7. “It doesn't have to be like this All we need to do is make sure we keep talking” - Pink Floyd, Keep Talking

  8. We have discussed borders, and we‘ve come to the conclusion that one important thing is to have respect for each other‘s borders …because everyone has their own borders and if we do not respect that, then we‘ll never get a free Europe!!

  9. The colour of our skin In this world, the colour of people´s skin makes borders. We think that isn‘t necessary. All people are the same on the inside!

  10. Prejudice Prejudices make a wall between people. If people have Prejudices, they make a border between themselves. “I have a dream“

  11. Religion is also a border... Think about the cultural problems between Islam, Christianity and the Jewish people. And think of the discussion about the burka and the headscarf!

  12. You can see the geographical borders of religion all over Here THE WORLD

  13. GO, CROSS THE BRIDGE! YOU DON‘T KNOW IF YOU‘LL BE WELCOME BUT IF YOU DON´T TRY, YOU‘LL NEVER KNOW!

  14. The EU means... No Borders!

  15. No Borders We think that borders are created by the fear of the stranger, and we believe that we can eliminate borders with help of friendship, knowledge of different cultures and other ways of thinking. Each person is different and that is good, because if not it would be a very boring life. To lose the fear, we must learn to respect other cultures with different religions, different food... All this should be done to achieve a better and a happier life.

  16. National Dishes There are many national dishes from different countries, but all of them are delicious. It is a good example how different we all are. During the opening evening we had a chance to try the dishes from other countries. They characterise a nation’s mentality.
