  5. What things will you need to learn about your Explorer? 3 • Biographical Information - like when and where he was born, what his family was like, interesting things he did as a young lad, etc. • exploration- what exactly happened, anyway? • Legacy- Fame? Fortune? Adventure?

  6. Report details: Research Phase Once you have chosen an explorer to research, your first task is to gather all that information. But Where From? Our school library Encyclopedias Videos The public library The internet

  7. How much research? You must have research from a minimum of three sources: A Library Book Worldbook online Destiny webpath website

  8. How will you record your research? You will receive Research Note Taking Sheets to record information from your sources (Link).

  9. Important information about the Explorer Note taking sheets Use ONE Explorer note taking sheet per source. Make sure you write all the Source identification information at the top of the sheet. TRUST ME…you’ll be happy you did. Keep each research note taking sheet to write your report and source sheet. You’ll need to turn in your research note taking sheets with your final report.

  10. Writing the Report • Once you have finished your research note taking sheets, we will be ready to start writing in class. • We’ll organize your ideas and type them up report style in class

  11. Other Report Pieces • A cover sheet that we will make in class • A source sheet that we will make in class • A hand-drawn map showing your explorer’s voyages(s) that you will make at home

  12. What will you be graded on? • GOOD QUALITY INFORMATION • Neatness • Organization • Effort • Conventions (of course!)

  13. Summary of the Project • Gather Information • Read your sources • Take Notes on research note taking sheets in your own words • Make a source Sheet • Write Report • Create a Cover Sheet • Make a map • Put it in a folder and due date: NOVEMBER 14th!
