Title of the project: Effect of lifestyle modification strategies on symptoms of Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) among reproductive women of Mangaluru city. yenepoya university
Introduction /Need of the study • PCOS is a common endocrine disorder affecting the women of reproductive age. • Incident :5-26% in the general population world wide. yenepoya university
Up ho 70%of women with PCOS remain undiagnosed. • There is a study growth of PCOS in the Nation. • This can be due to adaptation to sedentary lifestyle and fast growing westernized diet culture by the adolescents yenepoya university
Clinical features : • Polycystic ovaries, • Menstrual dysfunction like anovulation, irregular menstrual cycles, Oligomenorrohea, • Hyperandrogenism , • Obesity • Acne , • alopecia , • Hirsutism • long-term health. • obesity, • Infertility, • Cardiovascular disease, • Metabolic disorders, and cancers • Depression • Anxiety • stress • Poor self esteem • Poor quality of life. yenepoya university
Management is target to reduce the symptoms. • Hence small changes in lifestyle are known to improve symptoms and psychological well being. • The review of literature states in spite of frequent availability of medical treatments the satisfactory outcomes are depends on the lifestyle modification. yenepoya university
Objectives • To explore the lifestyle pattern of women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. • To compare the PCOS symptoms between the reproductive women in the experimental and control group. • To find the effect of lifestyle modification strategies of women in the experimental group. • To find the association of Symptoms of PCOS with baseline variables yenepoya university
Hypothesis • H0: There will be no significant difference between mean scores of symptoms of PCOS among experimental and control group. • H1: There will be no significant association between symptoms of PCOS and baseline variables. yenepoya university
Methods and Materials • Research approach: Quantitative • Research Design: QuasiExperimental design yenepoya university
Exclusion criteria: • Antenatal and postpartum women with PCOS. • Medical & surgical conditions that limit exercise. • Women with PCOS who have already undergone educational programme and training. • Those who are on treatment. • Inclusion criteria: Women of reproductive age • Who have diagnosed with PCOS • Age group between15 and 30years • After One year menarche with irregular menstrual cycle. • Has no endocrine disease or medical conditions. • Accept to participate in the study were included in the studied sample yenepoya university

Data collection Process • Ethical clearance will be obtained from the ethical committee of Yenepoya university and from father Muller Medical College Hospital. • Informed written consent will be taken from the study participants. yenepoya university

Follow up (Experimental group ) Baseline variables & Symptoms of PCOS Weekly –First month,Monthly –at the end of 2nd,3rd,4th month Evaluation Follow up (control group) Baseline variables &Symptoms of PCOS Weekly –First month ,Monthly –at the end of 2nd,3rd,4th month Analysis Descriptive statistics: Frequency, standard deviation ,mean percentage. Inferential statistics: Independent and pair ‘t’ test and chi square to find the association. OUTCOME

Life style modification strategies involved are • Exercises: The individual tolerance of exercises will be identified with the help of Bruce test. • Assistance from the physiotherapist for exercises. • Kinds of exercises :The exercises like aerobics, skipping jumba ,brisk walking ,cycling ,swimming Hip exercises with 10 minutes of warm up and cool down will be advised. • Diet : dietician for nutritional advices for participants will be taken. (High protein low carbohydrate diet ) • Behavioral modification therapy.
