National Night Out Green Home, Health & Safety Fair • Held on Saturday, September 26 • Frisco Athletic Center • Over 1,000 attendees • First opportunity for attendees to donate blood with Carter BloodCare for the Battle of the Badges blood drive • Vendors and static display of police and fire equipment and personnel
National Night Out Battle of the Badges Blood Drive • Carter BloodCare took all blood donations • Donations taken at City Hall, police department, and fire department • Those who donated could designate their donation as a bid for police or fire • Frisco Fire Department won the blood drive by a small margin
National Night Out Good vs. Good Basketball Game • Saturday, October 3rd at Frisco High School • Players were police officers and firefighters • Ticket sales for event went to Special Olympics, estimated at more than $600 • Final score: FD 64 - PD 51 • Police lead the series 2-1
National Night Out Frisco’s 2009 National Night Out • Tuesday, October 13 (rescheduled) • Due to weather, nearly 25% of all parties were cancelled that day • Police and Fire visited nearly 100 parties • Will be looking for public feedback on whether to retain the October date for Texas or return to national August date for the 2010 events
Community Topics Hunting in Frisco • Dove season opened on September 1st • New restrictions on hunting distances • Opening day 2008: 82 calls • Opening day 2009: 18 calls • 9 calls were complaints • 9 calls inquiring into the new law
Community Topics Back to School 2009 • Handheld cell phones prohibited in school zones as of September 1 • Only prohibited during school zone hours and if signs are present • Officers are phasing in enforcement by issuing warnings and will slowly begin to cite for offenses
Community Topics Youth Drug Education Programs • Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) • Juvenile Impact Program (JIP) • Collin County Substance Council • Teen Academy • Junior Police Academy • Shattered Dreams • Community Services Division
Community Topics New Communications Tower • Erected on the northeast corner of the police department’s property • Provides digital radio signal city-wide • Stands 260’ tall (plus antennas) • Can withstand 120 mph wind and 1” ice coverage on structure
