  1. Student Contributions • Difference between the students of today and those of the first years at Tech. • Differing contributions in school spirit, reputation, and financially.

  2. Difference in the Student Body • Ethnic and gender differences. • Size: 1888-95 students; 2007-18,654 • Today's students don't have to work in machine shops or build the school's buildings.

  3. School Spirit • Rare mix of academics and competitive athletics. • Favored sports to play and watch. • Then: Football and Baseball • Now: Football and Basketball • John Heisman, Coach: 1904-1919

  4. Reputation • Few Colleges or Universities at all in 1880. • Change of name in 1948 symbolized shifting focus. • U.S. News & World Report ranks the College of Engineering 5th in the nation and has 5 of the engineering programs in the top 5.

  5. Noteworthy Jackets • John Heisman, Coach of the Football team 1904-1919. Bobby Jones, B.S. In Mechanical Engineering in 1922
