Aphorisms • A concise/to the point observation that contains a general truth. • A concise statement of a scientific principle, typically by an ancient classical author.
Morrie’s Aphorism-An example On page 18 Morrie says, “Learn to forgive yourself and to forgive others” Let’s do a practice writing activity for this aphorism.
“Learn to forgive yourself and to forgive others” -Connect to my life: In my life I have learned that I need to forgive others and myself in many ways. For instance, I had an instance when I had a fight with my dad before he went on a business trip. He left for New York. Then September 11th hit. I felt awful and, thankfully, he was okay so I had time to get his forgiveness and time to forgive myself. -Connect to the book: Morrie had to forgive Mitch for not keeping in touch after college and Mitch had to forgive himself for the same thing. -Connect to another book: Harry Potter has to learn to forgive Snape for Dumbledore’s death.
Now it is your turn Choose one of the aphorisms below (both on page 18) and complete the writing activity on your own sheet of paper. “Accept what you are able to do and what you are not able to do” “Don’t assume that it’s too late to get involved”
