  1. Welcome to Advances in Sensory & Developmental Neuroscience (Neuro 520 section 3)

  2. This course is the offspring of the Neurotech seminar

  3. Who is it for? This course is tailored to faculty, students and research staff in the Neurotech group, and to pre- and post-doctoral trainees in the Sensory Neuroscience T.G.(SNTG) and the Developmental Psychobiology and Neurobiology T.G. (DPNTG)

  4. This course is open to ALL students, faculty and staff interested in Neuroscience

  8. Coverage: A wide range of topics in the broad area of sensory and developmental neuroscience

  9. Format: Some faculty presentations in the beginning, followed by student presentations later in the semester

  10. GOALS: • Learn recent advances and new techniques in sensory & developmental neuroscience • Network with researchers in these disciplines • Develop appreciation for interdisciplinary research • Develop survival skills (e.g., communicating scientific ideas and preparing grant applications)  NRSA

  11. What we look for: • Discussion • Active participation • Interactions

  12. Basis for Grading: • Students enrolled in the course are required to make at least one oral presentation and submit one reportper semester • Participation in the discussion

  13. Options for Oral and Written Presentations: • Student’s own research work or pilot study • A journal article (pre-approved)

  14. Coverage for oral presentations: (20 minutes) • Motivation of the research work • Research approaches and methods • Major findings • Significance of the findings

  15. Format of Written Report: (2-3 double-spaced pages, Due the week BEFORE FINALS) Summarize your own work/data Review format (write it as if you are writing a critique for a manuscript submitted to a peer review journal)
