Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act(1938, 1954, 1958)NATIONAL • The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA): one of two major federal pesticide statutes which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencyis responsible for implementing. • FFDCA limits pesticide residues on food in interstate commerce (including imports). • To make the safety finding, EPA considers, among other things: the toxicity of the pesticide and its break-down products, aggregate exposure to the pesticide in foods and from other sources of exposure, and any special risks posed to infants and children.
The FFDCA also places strict regulations on cosmetics: for instance, it cannot contain any poisonous or deleterious substance which may injure its users. PAULA SCHLOSS PERIOD 2
