NU-ROOF WP 2 Compatibility of Arginotec (NOTT) with Nanophos products
Characterization of products: • Arginotec NX Nanopowder: • Nanoscaled layer silicate • Dry powder without any chemicals • Particle size in average: D50 < 150 nm • Easy to disperse (excellent compatibility to water, for best nanoscaled distribution jet mixer or dissolver is • recommended)
Characterization of products: • SurfaPore Thermodry: • Macroscopic hollow spheric glass bubbles • Distributed in organic solvent (reference to Formaldehyd) • Estimated particle size: 20 - 50 µm Nanophos Thermodry 100-fold
Characterization of products: • Paint + Additives?: • Macroscopic hollow spheric glass bubbles • Distributed in unknown organic solvent (reference to Formaldehyd) • Estimated particle size: 20 - 50 µm • Similar to Thermodry, further unidentified additives suspected Paint+additives (light trough the sample) 100-fold Paint+additives after 2 d (additional top light) 100-fold
Characterization of products: • SurfaPore C: (Primer; not relevant for NU-ROOF!?) • Macroscopic milled glass • Silicone resin (reference to Formaldehyd) • Estimated particle size: < 10 - more than 100 µm • (Silicone resin reacts to Polysiloxan. This is an organomodified Quartz what has a very distinctive affinity to silicate building materials. Information from technical description of Wacker Silicones.) SurfaPore C (light trough the sample) 100-fold SurfaPore C (top light) 100-fold
Testing the compatibility: With SurfaPore Thermodry: 20 % SurfaPore Thermodry was diluted in water (only by stirring) no problem (20 weight-% relative to 100 weight-% water) Thermodry 20 % diluted in water (light through sample) 100-fold Thermodry 20 % diluted in water (additional top light) 100-fold
Testing the compatibility: With SurfaPore Thermodry: 20 % SurfaPore Thermodry was diluted in water (only by stirring) no problem pH 9,6 5 % Arginotec added (only by stirring) no problem pH 9,3 (20 weight-%, respectively 5 weight-% relative to 100 weight-% water) Thermodry 20 % + Arginotec 5 % diluted in water (light through sample) 100-fold Thermodry 20 % + Arginotec 5 % diluted in water (additional top light) 100-fold
Testing the compatibility: With SurfaPore Thermodry: 20 % SurfaPore Thermodry was diluted in water (only by stirring) no problem 5 % Arginotec added (only by stirring) no problem Result: There is no incompatibility between Arginotec and SurfaPore Thermodry to see. But! As a problem of Thermodry the hollow spheric glass bubbles what are very lightweight begin to segregate out of the suspension after a few minutes. This problem is depending on the viscosity of the solution and has to be solved by accomodation (Nanophos). Segregation of Thermodry out of the suspension
Testing the compatibility: With SurfaPore Thermodry: 20 % SurfaPore Thermodry was diluted in water (only by stirring) no problem 5 % Arginotec added (only by stirring) no problem After segregation: Thermodry segregated from the suspension 100-fold After segregation: Suspension with Arginotec 100-fold
Testing the compatibility: With Paint + Additives: 5 % Arginotec added (only by stirring) no problem (5 weight-% relative to 100 weight-%) Paint + Additives + 5 % Arginotec 100-fold (top light) Paint + Additives + 5 % Arginotec after 2d, 100-fold (top light, additional light through the sample)
Testing the compatibility: With Paint + Additives: 5 % Arginotec added (only by stirring) no problem (5 weight-% relative to 100 weight-%) Result: There is no incompatibility between Paint + Additives and Arginotec to see. The colour and the texture of the mixture has not really changed. Paint + Additives + 5 % Arginotec in comparison with the original
Testing the compatibility: With Surfapore C: (Primer; not relevant for NU-ROOF!?)(Only for completeness!) 10 % Arginotec added (only by stirring) no problem (10 weight-% relative to 100 weight-%) Result: There is to see a typical and absolutely expected reaction of a silicon resin with a mineral. The result is an expected Polysiloxan (by emision of volatile ingredients). SurfaPore C + 10 % Arginotec, reaction was started SurfaPore C + 10 % Arginotec, after a few days
Conclusion: • There are no critical effects to see between Nanophos products and Arginotec. So there is no problem relative to compatibility. • Arginotec is not modified. If really needed Arginotec is able to get modified.
