3 “…what God has planned for those who love him; we cannot begin to imagine” —1 Cor. 2:9a
My story … • I had no idea but I knew change was needed… • An atheist for 36 years I didn’t trust God or anyone • So, I challenged God to prove himself • “Believe and be amazed for when God’s promises are finally fulfilled in your life, Wow!" Luke 1:45 • My 20-year journey on life’s highway was possible only with the guidance of a personal savior, Jesus • This journey God took me was over life’s highway and into or at least closer to the promised-land 4
GPS: Guidance of a Personal Savior • (0) Faith (didn’t start out that way…) • There were problems but • (1) Aim for the dream • Most do not know • (2) Believe in God • And in the unknown • (3) Confess to possess • More than talk is required 5
Just do it! • (4) Delight in the Lord; • Design, devotion, discipline • (5) Express yourself in love; • Attitude, Behavior, Communication • (6) Forgive as God forgives; • Forgive others so you can be forgiven • (7) Give as you receive throughout life • When ready, the HS sends us. 6
The Way • Christian biblical meditation • Is not mindless (empty your mind of all thought) • Is reflective thinking so that “Your Word I hid in my heart so as not to sin against you" (Psalm 119:11). • Read the verse repeatedly • Think on the verse continually • Speak it aloud and talk to others • Apply it to your life in practical ways • Teach it and post the Word around the home 7
Why and What to Teach • “Teach it to your children, talk about it when sitting in your house, as you walk along, and when you lie down and rise up" (Deut 6:7) • We teach "what is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; anything of virtue and praise we think upon these" (Philippians 4:8) • Examine problem areas in your own life • What does Scripture say to do? • Penalty of disobedience • Benefit of obedience 8
0. Thought of today Application • Problem: Selfishness is seeking for our self and not that for Jesus • Scripture: Who sees his brother in need and does not have compassion, how does the love of God dwell in him? (1John 3:17) • Solution: Do for others for as you give you receive good measure, pressed down, shaken together, overflowing … • Disobey: Hebrews 12:5-6, “do not despise the reprimand of the Lord, nor be discouraged when rebuked”; The Strawberry Patch.docx 9
0. Thought of today Part 2 • The Storm of Correction enters our lives when we do not obey God (See Act 27:42-44). Jonah knew about these. A storm arose and tossed him overboard where he was swallowed by a fish for rebelling against the Lord (Jon_1:10). • Not all storms in life are correction (in this world we will have troubles Jesus warned) yet, sometimes the Lord sends a storm to get us on track again. • Obey: When we obey we do not have God’s correction but his blessings and do you not know the difference between a correction and a blessing! 10
