  3. 2008 NSDI Cooperative Agreements Program • Solicitation opened October 15 and will close December 18 • 26 proposals will be awarded for the 6 categories • Funds - CR • See http://www.fgdc.gov/grants/

Key Accomplishments FY 2007 NSDI CAP • Completed Geospatial Strategic Plans for the States of Maryland, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire • Established Web Feature Services for several national scale framework data using the data models from the draft ANSI Framework Data Standard • Developed framework clients for accessing, visualizing, analyzing, and sharing geospatial data • Web Mapping Services established by several organizations • More than 27 metadata workshops trained 400 individuals from across the US in a wide variety of organizations • Established or supported the multi-organizational collaboration to share geospatial information in a variety of communities in regions and organizations

  6. 50 States Initiative • Supported through NSDI CAP Grants • In collaboration with NSGIC • Grants to develop state-based geospatial strategic and business plans • Drives collaborative geospatial efforts across multiple sectors

  7. 50 States Initiative • Since FY 2005 inception 28 States & D.C. have received grants • 4 are complete • LA, MD, NH, OK • 7 are wrapping up & Final Report pending • (CT,MA, MN, RI, WI, WV, WY) • 18 are still in progress • CA, CO, DC, FL, IA, ID, IN, IL, KS, ME, MO, NC, NM, NY, SD, TX, UT, VT

  9. 50 States Initiative • Fifty States recognized in two 2007 National Academy Reports • Land Parcel Study-- embraces the Fifty States initiative to facilitate a land parcel coordinator in each state • Successful Response Starts with a Map --statewide councils facilitate data sharing and thus improve emergency response

  10. 50 States Initiative • FY 2008 Focus -- Improving Outreach • Surveyed State Coordinators • Current materials useful • Message can be improved • Plan to promote 50 States Initiative with other organizations (NASCIO, NACo, NGA, & others) • Working Group forming to improve outreach • Milo Robinson

Tribal Partnerships • The Tribal College Forum VI • Bismarck, ND in September 07 • Partnership between FGDC, USGS, United Tribes Technical College • Sessions held on NSDI Awareness and Metadata. • Emergency Management Framework Course for Tribal Governments • Partnership between FGDC, DHS/FEMA, Arizona Intertribal Council • Offered twice a year • Sessions on NSDI, metadata, partnership building • First Nations NSDI Training Session • To be included in ESRI regional and national user conferences • Requests received to hold session at other national venues

  12. FY 07 Annual Report • Format – similar to 2006 report • User friendly format • More focus on visuals • Length: About 40 pages • Draft Report Theme: • Spatially Understanding Our Changing World • Annual Report Survey • Graphics Specifications

Active FGDC Standards Projects • Public review closed June 8, 2007 for both: • Draft National Shoreline Data Content Standard • Draft National Vegetation Classification Standard, Version 2.0 - final draft has been released for a 30-day review • Draft Wetlands Standard • Public review closes November 8, 2007 • Standard Practice for Minimum Geospatial Data for a Coal Surface Mining Permit Boundary • Approved by ASTM on September 1, 2007 • First standard recommended for FGDC endorsement through the policy on FGDC recognition of voluntary consensus standards • North American Profile of ISO 19115 (2003), Geographic Information - Metadata • Review by INCITS Technical Committee L1 closed October 22, 2007. • After ANSI approval, it will be recommended for FGDC endorsement to supersede the Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (Version 2.0), FGDC-STD-001-1998.

Homeland Security Working Group Activities • Coordinate DHS Geospatial Data Model Review • (comment resolution underway for version 1.2 of logical data model in support of version 2.0 release and implementation within DHS 2nd Qtr FY08) • Review of A-16/Nationally Significant Data Theme Responsibilities • (developing recommendations for FGDC Coordination Group for A-16 data theme amendments to support of HLS, process brief to FGDC CG Dec 2007?) • Partnering with DHS Lessons Learned Information System (LLIS.gov) • (outreach to First Responder Community for data sharing, effective practices, Emergency Management GIS needs)
