“ ().” MODEL SLIDE At this point Rainsford realizes that the General did find him and could have easily killed him, but the General decided it was more fun to let him live and hunt him again. Rainsford is now forced into thinking like the prey instead of the hunter. The conflict of the story has become more complicated and the level of suspense has increased because the readers know that Rainsford is at a serious disadvantage and the stakes are high.
“That’s when the first hailstone hit me...If you’ve ever been hit by a hailstone, you’ll know was why Ruth and I ran under those bleachers…Ruth and I stood these bleachers, hailstones popping all around us, like we were inside this really big popcorn popper. Only at least the popcorn wasn’t hitting us on the head any more…A bolt of lighting lit up the sky…Thunder sounded so loudly, it shook the bleachers…Just as I was opening my mouth to tell Ruth it was probably just a little spring storm , and not to worry, she screamed, “Jess, don’t” (21-24).”--
