  2. Fall to Fall RetentionFirst-Time Full-Time Freshmen HLC: “Resident retention is too low for a population with a 3.4 high school GPAand average ACT composite of 23-24. The University needs to address itsretention issue and identify its cause(s)” 2

  3. MAP-Works • Educational Benchmarking INC (EBI) Founded 1984 • -UW partnership since 1998 with satisfaction surveys • Ball State University’s Early Alert Survey demonstrated success • Fusion of BSU’s survey and EBI’s technology 3

MAP-Works: How it Helps • Student Surveys • -Tool provides timely information to students to influence behavioral changes • Survey Data • -May be combined with UW retention data to determine patterns and program interventions • Student Interventions • -Tool provides designated faculty and staff with information to discuss concerning behavior with students 4

MAP-Works: Data Elements • Student Transition Survey – Early Behaviors • -Tool provides timely information to students to influence behavioral changes • -Learning (expected grades, grades earned in the past, basic study skills, maximization of study skills) • -Connections (student activities and residence hall life) • -Making Healthy Choices (time management, eating healthy) • -Knowing Yourself (academic abilities and self-management) • Data Uploads • Campus Resource Uploads • Institutional Specific Questions 5

MAP-Works: Interventions • Information will be shared with students regarding the tool • Confidentiality statement on the survey will discuss institutional use of results • Faculty/Staff utilizing the system participate in training sessions • Interventions are coordinated through notes within the system • Students take the survey between weeks 5-7 of fall semester • Veterans were added in 2011, transfer students will be added in 2012 9
