  1. Warm Up • Because he felt intimidated in his new position, he was ------- divulging his frank opinions of company proposals. • (A) scurrilous about • (B) candid in • (C) chary of • (D) fervid about • (E) precipitate in

  2. Algebra 3 Chapter 5 Lesson 6: Quadratic Formula and the Discriminant

  3. VOCAB • Quadratic Formula – is a formula that will give you the x-intercepts to ANY quadratic equation • Discriminant – tells you how many real solutions a quadratic equation has (how many times the graph crosses the x-axis) • 2 is when the discriminant is greater than 0 • 1 is when the discriminant is 0 • 0 is when the discriminant is less than 0

  4. DIRECTIONS (Quadratic Formula) • Set the equation to be equal to zero • Move everything to one side • Combine Like Terms • Plug a, b, and c into the formula • Solve

  5. I DO (Quadratic Formula) Find all zeros using the quadratic formula • 1. • 2. • 3. • 4.

  6. WE DO (Quadratic Formula) Find all zeros using the quadratic formula • 1. • 2. • 3. • 4.

  7. YOU DO (Quadratic Formula) Find all zeros using the quadratic formula • 1. • 2. • 3. • 4.

  8. REVIEW • Today you learned how to solve a quadratic equation using the quadratic formula

  9. HOMEWORK • Worksheet • 5.6B (13-24)

  10. Warm Up • Silvery fish Asuch as sardines and Atlantic herring Bbeing masters of camouflage, using Ctheirsilvery skin to stay invisible to predators Dfrom nearly every angle. ENoerror (A) (B) (C)   (D) (E)

  11. Algebra 3 Chapter 5 Lesson 6: Quadratic Formula and the Discriminant

  12. DIRECTIONS (Discriminant) • Set the equation to be equal to zero • Move everything to one side • Combine Like Terms • Plug a, b, and c into the formula • Solve

  13. I DO (Discriminant) Find the discriminant and determine how many REAL solutions • 1. • 2. • 3. • 4.

  14. WE DO (Discriminant) Find the discriminant and determine how many REAL solutions • 1. • 2. • 3. • 4.
