If there is something specific to your child that you need to discuss please e-mail the teacher individually.

  3. 7C Team Philosophy • Welcome to Junior High! • Goal: Teach STUDENTS to be responsible for themselves, NOT PARENTS or TEACHERS • Students should take ownership of their grades and learning • Take initiative and become self advocates • “My mom wants to know why I’m missing 3 assignments…” • Teachers and parents set high expectations, develop relationships • Team support, open communication

  4. Team Philosophy • Students may struggle with additional responsibility and that is OK and healthy. • Adjusting to junior high can be a challenge and you may see changes in grades, behavior, work ethic, and attitude. • This is a time for growth.

Class Information Success Procedures for Students and Parents • Use your agenda and write all homework down daily. • Check Infinite Campus for any missing assignments Check the absent work box if you were absent for class work, homework, or handouts. • Come in to tutoring to discuss missing assignments, notes, handouts, grade checks, or for extra help. • Use the school website to email teachers if you have questions. • Sign up for Remind Announcements

Late work policy • Santan Junior High To better serve our student’s educational needs and prepare them to meet future expectations of high school, Santan Junior High will adhere to the following late work policy: 1 Day late 25% off 2 Days late 50% off 3 or more days late 0% Teacher discretion will be exercised for large projects/assignments and for work that cannot be made up (examples: labs, warm-ups, in-class assignments/lectures).

Late work continued IEP and 504 Students with documented time extension or students with special circumstances may turn in a late assignment with teacher discretion up until the last week of the quarter. Make-up work due to an absence: The team will adhere to the current district make- up policy, in which students have a day to make up work for each day they were absent.

  13. Math Homework . • Given out M, T, W, TH • Usually 10- 15 minutes to work on it in class • Whatever isn’t finished in class should be finished at home. • Checked daily in class. • Allowed to correct all missed problems. • Turn in on Mondays.

  14. Quizzes • Review for quizzes/Tests in class • Quiz corrections are available • Majority of the Math Grade is from Quizzes/Assessments.

  15. Mr. Turnbow - Social Studies  This is my 7th year teaching and my second year at SJHS.I received my Bachelors in Secondary Education from Arizona State University in 2013. This year Arizona updated the state standards for Middle Grades Social Studies. We are going to be covering lots of new material!

  20. In Mr. Turnbow’sclass your child’s grade is determined on Infinite Campus through the means of Assignments and Assessments. Assessments will usually take the form of tests, quizzes, and projects. The bulk of their assignment grades are made up through the completion of classwork.  Sound organization is taught throughout and it is my hope that upon leaving 7th grade that your child’s 8th grade and High School teachers will experience the benefits of an established foundation in organizational skills.

  23. Class Routines Daily: Weekly: Students will complete a reflection of their learning. They will also record a current class score by accessing Infinite Campus. Signed by parents as a form of school-to-home communication. • Students will complete an agenda entry for the day • Students will also complete a “warm-up” activity. • Finally, students will complete a “cool-down” activity

  25. 7th Grade Science • The curriculum is Integrated Science…. • We study a little bit of several areas of science. • It is my goal that somewhere along the line, your child develops a love for science and looks forward to future courses in high school and college…..

  27. 2nd Quarter - Space • Earth’s movement and position relative to other space objects • Seasons • Constellations • Phases of the moon • Ocean tides • Eclipses

  28. 3rd Quarter - Ecology • Food chains & webs • Niche of organisms • Predator-prey relationships • Population sizes • Interactions of humans with the environment

  32. Ms. Tankersley • Welcome! • This is my 20 year of teaching, 7th year in Language Arts • I graduated from Colorado State with a Psychology Degree and ASU with a Masters in Education.

  38. Additional ELA information • Students expected to read 2 novels per quarter. • Two research projects-1st Quarter, 3rd Quarter • Students can bring phones/tablets to use in class for reading and research with permission. • Students can come in for tutoring to make up tests or do retakes.
