Homeroom students should go directly to your locker when you enter the classroom in the morning and have a seat.

  5. Waiting to Enter Student should always wait outside of classroom until permitted to enter. Students should avoid entering my class without gaining permission before, during, or after class. Students will be standing in a quiet, single file line to the left of my door without blocking any teacher’s entrance to their classroom. How to Enter Class Students will quietly walk into the classroom only upon permission prepared for success. Treat this like your job. Always bring daily supplies: Agenda Homework Ink pens and sharpened pencils. Library book Student will place their DGP or other homework assignment in the top right hand corner of their desk and go directly to their assigned seats. Immediately copy the essential questions, AKS taught, and agenda items down into their agenda; and immediately begin writing activity. Never sit idly and talk with friends or try to work on homework! All homework is to be completed prior to class.
  6. Homeroom & Attendance Procedure Students will arrive to homeroom starting at 8:55am when the first bell rings. Students will have gotten their breakfast prior to entering class and will enter quietly to their assigned seat, eat breakfast while seated. Students are not permitted to empty trash outside in the hall until dismissed by me. Students are expected to clean their desk for any food or drink stains. Students will grab all required books and materials for the day prior to announcements. All students will be expected to participate in sustained silent reading during homeroom that will last until 9:20am, so bring your library book daily or grab one from off my bookshelf.. Teacher will take attendance once announcements start. If you arrive during the announcements, you must have a tardy pass from the front office. Attendance will be taken each class using the assigned seating during the beginning of each class while students are copying in their agendas.
  7. What to Do if You Are Tardy Knock lightly if the door is locked. Wait patiently for someone to open the door for you. Enter class quietly and hand me your tardy pass. If you arrive to class in the middle of an activity, follow the procedures for “when you are absent.” When Someone Knocks The person sitting nearest the door will get permission to answer the door. Once permission is granted, the person will get up quietly from their seat, walk to the door and open it. End of Class The bell does not dismiss the class, the teacher does. Make sure your area is clean and tidy. Pick up paper and put all your things away in the trash on the way out. Push your chair in and stand behind your chair. Wait for the teacher to dismiss you by row. When you are dismissed, walk out of the classroom quietly with ALL books and supplies for your remaining classes.
  8. Quieting the class Talking Codes are very necessary for facilitating discussion. Here they are: Code One: silent work (no sound is expected) Please write down at least 2 activities code 1 will be expected. Code Two: conversational tones. Elbow partnered assignments and whole class discussions are usual times this code will be used. Please write down at least 2 behaviors that will not be acceptable as code two conduct. Code Three: multiple on task conversational tones throughout the room. Slightly louder than code two. Please write down at least 2 activities that code three may be allowed. When the teacher needs to quiet the class or get your attention during an activity, I’ll drop one light, as your first warning to quiet down. Once the light is dropped, I will say, “Class, class” Your response should be, “Yes, yes” to let the teacher know that you have their full attention.
  9. How to Get the Teacher’s Attention If you need to ask a question or speak with the teacher, you need to raise your hand and quietly wait to be called on. If you need to get out of your seat to throw away something, grab something, or give something to someone, don’t move unless given permission. If you have an extreme emergency and need to go to the restroom, you will raise your hand with 2 fingers up. The teacher will acknowledge you by answering with a shake of the head without disturbing the class. You may go to the bathroom with a signed pass during homeroom, there is a scheduled bathroom break at 10:50am for the team, and of course prior to lunch at 12:18, so try to make yourself go during the scheduled breaks; otherwise, you will find that daily EMERGENCIES will lose permission! If permitted to leave, student will write out the pass in their agendas (not your friends’). It must be written in pen and include the time before it is signed. Paper passes will not be acceptable.
  10. Movement of paper When papers are being handed out to you, take the paper on top and pass the rest of the papers beside or behind you. When turning in papers, make sure you pass all papers down your row towards the door, once the last person in your row’s paper is received, then pass your row’s paper to the person in desk near the door. The desks are close enough to one another, so no one will need to get out of their seats. Once I have called for all papers and collected papers from the desk near the door, your paper will be considered late if collected separately.
  11. How to Head Your Paper Since school is your job, you will want to be paid. Your grade is your pay, and you can only receive it if you have the required information on your work submitted. Your papers must have your heading at the very top _______ hand corner of your paper as followed below in order to receive _______________.Please display your heading in the proper location as defined on this page of your procedures.
  12. When You Are Absent Please see my website. If you have internet access at home be proactive and complete assignments listed or email me for clarification. If you do not have internet access, please make arrangements to arrive to school early and use the computers in the media center to check for work, or email me a time and day that your parent can drop you off early to recover the missed assignment. Ask classmates prior to my class what was missed and come see me if you need copies or a book to use to complete assignment during homeroom time. The appropriate time to do so is during ___________ or during ____________, so ask your homeroom teacher for a pass in your agenda to my class to collect missing assignments. Never interrupt any of my classes (including your own) to find out what was missed in your absence! You will be given 5 days for every excused absent day to complete the classroom assignments or summative assignments missed.
  13. How to Transition to Lunch/Media Center/Computer Lab/Assembly The teacher will dismiss students by name, row, or section. Students will quietly push in chairs, line up along the bulletin wall in the classroom in a single filed line. Once we are completely silent, we will exit the classroom and line up outside at the top of the hall. Teacher reserves the right to make students return to class and start over if the line and noise level does not meet the expectation. Once the class is lined up properly, teacher will allow students to begin walking to destination with only our class, no one else’s class.
  14. How to Behave in Media Center and Computer Labs Once we arrive to our destination, wait quietly in the front for instructions as to what computer number you will be assigned to work from. Always bring your agenda and your materials required to complete assignment. Conversations are not permitted in the computer lab or media center unless instructed by me. Teacher reserves the right to cancel computer lab time if behavior expectations are not being met. We will return to classroom to complete next assignment, but understand that the work will not be cancelled or postponed, but assigned as homework for you to complete because our class time is very valuable and must be used wisely.
  15. End of Day Procedures Once 4th period is dismissed, homeroom will enter quickly and load or unload at lockers. Once you have your book bag packed, you should stack your chair along the bulletin board in columns no more than 6 chairs. Students should return to their desk and wait to be dismissed for connections. Once your row is called, line up at the door and snake the line along the lockers. Once dismissed we will transition silently (without __________) on the right side of the hall to our connection destination.
  16. Requesting Passes All business affairs should be handled during homeroom once you have entered the classroom after getting breakfast. Returning forms, transportation issues, lunch money, media center, etc. Counselor visits can be requested, but be mindful of your timing. Counselors have AM & PM duty, so they are not available during homeroom or dismissal, so please ask to fill out a counselor form and place it in their box.
  17. Tornado and fire drill The tornado and fire procedures are posted by the front door. In case of a tornado drill, the students will quietly enter the hallway, bent over facing the wall and wait for the bell for teacher to release them. In case of a fire drill, students will exit the classroom together quietly to the right and enter the field located outside of I/J halls. Teacher and students will wait as a class, in a quiet line for instruction to reenter the building. Teacher will take roll to ensure all students are accounted for, and we will return to class together.
