Education and Training III School Year 2012 -2013
Resume We will go over the guidelines then within two weeks, it must be submitted to me.
PERSONAL STATEMENT Writing guide contents • www.studential.com/guide/writing_personal_statement.htm
Portfolio • Consists of all the work that you do in class. Most things will be typed. • Each marking period there will be a syllabus (marking period outline)that you must complete during that marking period. The Syllabus can be found in the Y drive. • Example of portfolio assignments are class work such as theorist reports, lesson plans, resume, personal statements, observations, job shadow, child study and various requirements needed to fulfill the requirements for ACCC.
Dual Credit • Education and Training III gives the students the opportunity to earn four college credits from ACCC. These credits will transfer in New Jersey either as a requirement or as an elective. • Advantage – 4 credits at $160 vs. 4 credits at $510 at ACCC. • There will also be a $40 non refundable application fee.
NOCTI or CDA? • Currently the NOCTI test is being administered. I am hoping to give this two part test during 3rd marking period. This certifies you as a Child Care Worker which is good for your resume. • The CDA is a Child Development Associate Credential. As of now, we are working towards this and our logging of hours working with the children will count towards this for the students.
Job Shadow • Students will be assigned to teacher at the Miller School. Hopefully one student per teacher. If you are more interested in teaching high school, then you can be placed here. It is my intention to change teachers throughout the year in order for you to gain as much experience as possible. • We will go with on Day 2 or 3 depending on what works for you and your schedules. I need half to go and half will stay and be with the children doing lesson plans and observations. Day 2 is at the end of the day Day 3 you have lunch there or on the bus and then come back for last block
Job Shadow Continued • This is a mandatory event. A journal entry must be made after each visit. This consists of what was going on during the visit. (100 words is usually appropriate) The entry needs to be typed and in your portfolio • Dress is very important when you go to Miller, therefore a dress code is in place. The official dress code is either a long sleeve EHT shirt which we get from the school store or the red FCCLA polo shirts.
Observations • You will be assigned a child. You will study this child all year. Each marking period there will be a certain amount • This child is the child you will work with for testing. If the child needs remedial help then you will be responsible. If they need challenging activities then you will be responsible to meet these needs. • You will interview their parents in order to gain valuable information about the child.
FCCLA Requirements • Every student needs to be involved in both fall and spring FCCLA activities in the classroom. • Outside the classroom is totally optional. • If there is no interest in the activities then POWER or ONE is for you!
Stressed? • The best nerd joke ever!!!
If that doesn’t work! EAT Chocolate!!!!
