II. Class Survey • What do we think we know about crime and crime prevention? • Administer survey • Designed just to test our knowledge of a few items related to crime and the criminal justice system • Expect to administer the same survey at the end of the course
III. Law-Abiding People • What does it mean to be “law-abiding?” • What do we call people who are not “law-abiding?” • Do you consider yourselves to be law-abiding? • So should we consider you folks all to be criminals? • Why not?
IV. Key Points to Understand from Today • Most of us break some laws, some quite frequently • Some of the laws we break frequently are quite serious and breaking them can have really terrible consequences • So, calling others criminals while we consider ourselves not to be criminals is quite arbitrary and inappropriate
