Viscosity and Buoyancy Physical Properties
Viscosity • A fluids resistance to flow • High Viscosity: the fluid is thick and flows slowly • Low Viscosity: the fluid is think and flows fast
If I poured each of these liquids out, which would have a high viscosity? How can I prove it?
Buoyancy • The ability to exert an upward force on an object immersed in it
Buoyancy • If the buoyant force is greater than or equal to the weight of the water displaced, then the object will float
Buoyancy Buoyant force is greater than or equal to weight = float Weight is greater than buoyant force = sink
Compressibility • A measure of how much the volume of matter decreases under pressure • Gases are easily compressible because of the space between the particles • Used in automobile airbags to absorb the energy of an impact
