NBS Committee Meeting • WI Department of Health Services WI Division of Public Health Umbrella Committee Meeting Newborn Screening Program • Spinal Muscular Atrophy Nomination • Presented by Dr. Schultz and Dr. Schroth • CureSMA funding opportunity for SMA NBS initiatives • December 2017 - Umbrella Committee recommended that SMA become part of the the routine NBS panel in Wisconsin • February 2018 - Advisory Committee to the Secretary of the WI Department of Health Services passed it • Currently, the Secretary is awaiting the formal proposal • If she passes it, then a plan will be created on how to rule and create the infrastructure needed to add SMA to the Wisconsin NBS panel • Total process will take 2-3 years Competencies: interdisciplinary leadership, working with communities and system, CYSHN, policy/legislation, MCH knowledge base, ethics and professionalism
