  4. advantages and benefits • Opportunity to take part in a unique JISC funded national e-book project • Nationally funded two-year licence fee allowing exploration of the impacts of free at the point of use e-books upon traditional print sales within a low risk environment • Unique deep log data on e-book users, behaviours and patterns of use • Empirical evidence to inform the promotion of e-books to higher education • Opportunity to raise awareness of e-books and their potential in education

  5. bidder requirements • Support core reading for UK higher education taught course students in: • Business and Management Studies • Engineering • Medicine (not mental health or nursing) • Media Studies • Most recent editions, published in or after 2000 • Suitable for students studying in the UK

  6. bidder requirements continued • Make available through platforms • Model licence for e-books • Quantity of hard copy editions of proposed titles for last three years and during the two year licence period • Cooperate with the deep log analysis team • Provide free MARC records for each title

  7. timescales • Proposal deadline – 23rd April 2007 • Proposal evaluation period – May – July 2007 • Awarding of bids – 31st July 2007 • Licensing period – August 2007 • Signing of two year licenses – 1st September 2007 – 31st August 2009 • Delivery of e-books on platforms – 12th September 2007 • Deep log analysis – 1st January 2008 – 31st December 2008 • Analysis and writing up – January - March 2009 • Next steps – April 2009 – August 2009

  8. evaluation process • Stage 1 evaluation: The JISC national e-books observatory project board • Stage 2 evaluations: The JISC higher education community will be consulted on the proposed e-books and asked to prioritise the e-books within the four subject areas. • Stage 3 evaluation: The JISC national e-books observatory project board will agree the final list of e-books to be funded. • Evaluation criteria will be used to evaluate the proposed e-books. The criteria is in section 11 of the tender document.

  9. bidding process • Read the tender carefully • Submit proposed e-books against the criteria specified in section 6 and 10 of the tender and in the format requested • Complete Form of Tender, Cover Sheet and Certificate of Bona Fide Tender • No longer than 10 pages • 4 print copies in enveloped clearly marked • 12:00 GMT on Monday 23rd April 2007
