Sony’s Playstation 3 • Arrives Spring 2006 • Processor 35 times more powerful than PS2 • Ability to display in HDTV • "This is a system to be placed in the center of the living room around the world," – Ken Kutaragi, Sony’s Video Game Unit Head
More PS3 • Designed to be more than just a video game machine…. • Offers built in modem for broadband, wireless internet connections • Users will be able to purchase games online • Top of the line DVD player to play movies with advanced audio output
Xbox 360 • For sale in November 2005, Holiday Season • 35-40 game titles planned at launch • Xbox Live, online ability to play videogames with other people • Current subscription base is 2 million, • 1 BILLION subscriber • goal
Price Fears? • PS3 analysts predict that the unit could cost up to 500 dollars • Game titles could also reach 60-70 dollars per game • Due to increased R&D and development for high tech games Would 650 dollars for a unit and two games alienate a great percentage of the potential market share? Will Xbox 360 take it?
Xbox 360 fights for Market Share • Expected to sell for around 300 dollars • Trails PS2 currently in market share but 360 could attain first mover advantages with next-gen system • Will capture Holiday rush and will be more affordable to more consumers • PS3 banking on supposed superior graphics and features
