  1. What is Myasthenia Gravis? Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune condition that affects 20 out of every 100,000 people. It is a lifelong neuromuscular disease that affects the individual’s ability to control muscles voluntarily. Eventually, it causes incredible weakness in the muscles. In a patient with MG, the immune system malfunctions by releasing antibodies that destroy receptor sites and disrupt communication between nerve and muscle cells.

  2. Symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis • Drooping eyelids, also known ptosis • Facial muscle weakness • Limb weakness • Speech trouble • Dysphagia • Double vision • Inability to hold neck up • Respiratory problems • Fatigue As the disease advances, these symptoms can get progressively worse.

  3. Causes of Myasthenia Gravis • Presence of protein blocking antibodies • Enlarged thymus gland • Tumor in thymus gland • Family history (mothers with MG may give birth to children with MG) This type of MG is called neonatal MG. Timely diagnosis and intervention can help children recover within 2-3 months after birth.

  4. Risk factors of Myasthenia Gravis • Medication, typically beta blockers, anesthetics, antibiotics • Pregnancy • Menstruation • Fatigue • Surgery • Illness • Infection • Stress

  5. Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy for Myasthenia Gravis At our centres in Bangalore and Hyderabad, we offer regenerative rehabilitation for myasthenia gravis. Mesenchymal stem cell therapy, a crucial component of Plexus’ rehabilitation program offers the following benefits: Immunomodulation • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have immunomodulatory properties that help them regulate the immune system's responses Anti-Inflammatory Effects • MSCs secrete anti-inflammatory molecules that reduce inflammatory response • This can stall disease progression and decrease the severity of symptoms

  6. Tissue Repair and Regeneration • MSCs differentiate into various cell types, such as muscle cells and other tissues • Their regenerative abilities help in the repair of damaged tissues at the neuromuscular junction Tolerance Induction • Research suggests MSCs contribute to induction of immune tolerance • This helps reduce the immune system’s unwarranted attack on healthy tissues

  7. Advantages of stem cell therapy Additional benefits of stem cell therapy for individuals suffering from myasthenia gravis include: • Better symptoms management • Faster injury reversal • Improved quality of life • Enhanced everyday functionality • Prevention of further nerve damage • Speedy post-procedure recovery

  8. Stem cell therapy at India’s first ISO-Certified Stem Cell Research Center Plexus Neuro and Stem Cell Research Centre uses mesenchymal stem cells. The procedure is conducted by Dr. Sadiq, India’s no. 1 stem cell specialist, and his team of highly-skilled and experienced stem cell specialists.
