What nine volt batteries work the best? • The reason I decided to test this experiment was because I’m tired of the fighting going on between battery companies and I just wanted to figure out which one was really the best to settle it once and for all.
Hypothesis • I think that if I plug in three nine-volt batteries (Energizer, Duracell, RadioShack) to three mini lamps, then the Energizer will last the longest. • The reason behind my hypothesis is that Energizer is a more developed battery company than most other places, and the fact that they created the nine-volt.
Interesting Facts • A few things I noticed were: The Duracell battery just went out and didn’t fade. • The RadioShack and Energizer faded and didn’t burn out. • The time differences were huge.
Experiment • Materials: • A soldering iron • Rosin-core solder • 3 nine volt snap connectors • ½ inch thick board • 3 mini lamp bases • 3 screw-base lamps • Super glue • One nine volt Energizer, Duracell, and RadioShack batteries • Velcro • Instructions: • Solder the rosin-core solder to connect the nine-volt snap connectors to the solder tabs on the mini lamp base. • Then, secure the three bases to the ½ inch thick board with super glue. • Next, attach the batteries to the board with Velcro a good distance away from the connectors, don’t plug them in yet! • Screw the lights into the bases and then as close to the same time as you can get, connect the batteries. • Controls/variables • battery power
Observations • Each battery lasted a very different time then the others. • Duracell is not a great of battery as the commercials make it sound. • It didn’t take as long as I expected it would. • And, nine-volts are expensive.
Data • I turned each battery on at four thirty-seven p.m. • The Duracell battery went out at five thirty-six and was on a total of one hour and one minute. • The RadioShack battery went out at five forty-six and was on a total of one hour and nine minutes. • The Energizer battery went out at six o’ eight and was on a total of one hour and thirty-one minutes.
Analysis of Data • The Energizer was on the longest. • The Duracell was on the shortest amount of time. • The Radio Shack brand battery was on the most neutral amount of time. • The Energizer is the best battery.
Conclusion • All in all this was a very exciting experiment and I would definitely like to try again sometime and see if I get different results, but for now, all I can say is… • 1st place goes to… Energizer. • 2nd place goes to… RadioShack brand. • 3rd place goes to… Duracell.
