Introduction • Ancient Egypt is a great civilization. Ancient Egypt made many contributions to us. With their famous monuments and paintings it’s astonishing. • Influence: • People around the world are influenced in Egypt; Moviemakers make movies like Cleopatra. Composers using many different themes like Aida wrote operas. Michael Jackson also influenced, he made a video wearing Egyptian costumes. Tombs and monuments still stand today, built almost four thousand years ago, even the technology that we have now cannot create this.; this shows that their buildings were made out of materials with good quality, which was expensive. The majority of the people there are farmers; farmers planted crops and sell them to make a living and to pay their taxes, and also to have enough food to feed their family.
Mummification • The Ancient Egyptians religious beliefs that the body of a human was conserved. Egyptians developed mummification. There were six aspects to a body; the body, the name, the shadow, the ka, the ba, and the akh. To mummify a body they took out all of his/her organs but left out the heart. They left out the heart because they believed that it was the point of intelligence and emotions. The Ancient Egyptians believed in the afterlife. They believed that all humans had a second live after death. They preserve the bodies so it could be used in the afterlife. When humans die his/her family gathers all of his/her belongings and place it next to the grave, they do this just in case the human needs it in the afterlife.
Hieroglyphics • The Egyptians form of language was called Hieroglyphics; Hieroglyphics is the Ancient Egyptians language. It was really important to them that they felt as if it was a type of art form. Hieroglyphics was usually carved or painted, but for everyday purposes Egyptians wrote in Hieratic, Hieratic is a cursive form of hieroglyphics. This shows that most people did not have much spare time, they were in a hurry, and they had to work. Scribes and Artisans were sent to a scribal school to learn how to write and read.
The Three Kingdoms • There are three kingdoms in Egypt, the old kingdom, the middle kingdom, and the new kingdom; these three kingdoms are all time periods. These kingdoms started and ended at the start of dynasties. “A dynasty is a period where a human group is in power. The old kingdoms time period lasted from 2700-2200 B.C. in the old kingdom the great pyramid of Giza was built and the great sphinx of Giza. The middle kingdoms time period lasted from 2100-1800 B.C. In the middle kingdom the Ancient Egyptians developed a government where the pharaoh did not have full power. And the last one is the new kingdom. The new kingdom time period lasted from 1570 - 1080 BC. In this time period, the Ancient Egyptians were strong, they took over many countries but at the end of this time period Egypt started to fall apart.
Pyramids • The Great Pyramid Of Giza, and The Great Sphinx Of Giza. These two pyramids were built in the Old Kingdom. This refers to the Pyramid age. The Pyramids of Giza were built between 2560 B.C to 2480 B.C; about two thousand to three thousand years ago. Laborers were needed to build each Pyramid. To demonstrate its significance King Tutankhamen built three Pyramids for his brides. The cost of a Pyramid shows the wealth of a King and the availability of a massive work force.Between2628 B.C-1638 B.C kings were buried in pyramids. These pyramids were built in west of Memphis. They buried pharaohs in pyramids so they could rest, and to protect the body and their belongings.
Cleopatra • Cleopatra means the name of seven pharaohs. Cleopatra VII was the greatest, and the last pharaoh of Egypt. She was very powerful from age fifteen. She led a civil war with her brother Ptolemy XIII they began the civil war in 48 B.C . Cleopatra took over the throne. She went to Caesar and had a child. After Caesar was murdered she returned to Egypt. At the battle of Actium in the 31 Cleopatra was defeated. And soon Rome Conquered Egypt.
King Tutankhamun • King Tutankhamen was only nine years old when he first became a pharaoh. King Tutankhamen died at a very young age. People did not have enough time to finish his tomb, compared to other tombs his tomb was really small. In 1922, Howard Carter entered his tomb and he found a sack of gold on the floors, robbers must have been there and dropped it. This shows me that king Tutankhamen was a rich pharaoh
Jobs • There were many jobs in Ancient Egypt, everyone was needed, everyone was important there. All people work together to make a living. Important jobs had soldiers and scribes. Almost all of the jobs were inherited. Most children don’t go to school, fathers taught their kids how to work in a trade or farm and plant crops. Mother taught the daughters how to cook meals and how to work in a household. Rich families sent their kids to a scribal school to learn how to write and read, the parents did this so when their kids grow up they become government officials and to earn money and to have an easy life, it was hard for them to make a living. Each job needed a talent. • Scribes: • Scribes went to a scribal school, being a scribe is complicated, about most of the people that went there did not pass. The scribe was someone that could successfully write and read. The business also needed scribes to record down business documents. Once you get to be a scribe life would get easier and you might also work your way up to a pharaoh’s court. • Noblemen: • Noblemen are also important to the country; noblemen help the pharaoh run the country, they also work in the government.
Diets • Rich people that worked in the government or pharaohs and priests could have beef and other meats they enjoyed eating. But poor people that did not have good jobs did not have the same; the primary food is grains because it could be used in many different ways and in many different purposes. Bakers were needed; they are the ones who cooked the grains into food. Most villagers were farmers. They grew everything they wanted to eat. They grew their crops along the river Nile, along the black soil that was left over from the floods. They grew their crops there because the soil was fertile and soggy, healthy for the plant to grow there.
Gods And Goddesses • “The ancient Egyptians believed in many different gods and goddesses. Each one with their own role to play in maintaining peace and harmony across the land.”
