What features suggest E coli infection? • Diarrhoea • Haematuria • Child’s age • Fever • Rapid onset
Haemolytic uraemic syndrome • Generally starts with diarrhoea (can be bloody) • Cramps • Verocytotoxin-producing E coli (VTEC) • 10% of VTEC cases thought to develop HUS
