AN-MSI Project • Four-year, $6 million grant (ANI-9980537) from the National Science Foundation (NSF) • Includes $1 million subcontract to EOT-PACI (the Education, Outreach, and Training Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure) • For more information, please visit http://www.eot.org • Overall Goal: • To assist minority-serving institutions as they improve Internet connectivity, campus networks and their technical support, and advanced use of the networks

AN-MSI Committees • Executive Awareness • Assists campus decision-makers in visualizing and planning for effective integration of the Internet in their institutions • Resource Development • Locates additional funding to make possible the improvements developed by AN-MSI • Network Technology • Addresses the networking technical, operational, and support issues facing MSIs, including campus network planning, local consulting and training, and remote technical support centers
AN-MSI Committees (continued) • Internet Connectivity • Develops wireless/satellite pilot projects, innovative wired technology, and cooperative connectivity projects • Applications • Encourages and implements high-performance applications and assists other applications making use of the improved networks • Evaluation & Assessment • Assesses the project’s effectiveness and modifies the project as appropriate
AN-MSI Wireless Project: New Wireless Network Model • Wireless Multiservices IP Network • Scalable, fully meshed network • Use of wideband wireless devices • Spread Spectrum and Ultra-Wideband • Support of new Internet applications
AN-MSI Wireless Project: Services to be Offered • VoIP for telephony • Internet data • Videoconferencing (two MPEG-2 streams) • Wireless campus backbone delivering 30 Mbps over a 10-mile radius • Wireless Mobility
