  2. Breaks • Word has the ability to create two types of breaks • Page Breaks – Useful for breaking the text for better document flow • Section Breaks – Serve as indicators for different sections • Useful for multi-document Word files • Scientific Journals

  3. Table of Content Generation • The Table of Content generator in word is based off of the correct use of styles • The ToC button is located on the References tab • There are options to modify which styles are represented in the ToC

  4. Table of Content Generation • Insert a page break after the title page • On the new blank page, generate a ToC • Notice that the title of the document “Designing a Web Site” is present at the top level of the ToC • Modify the ToC so that only headings are displayed

  5. Footnotes • Footnotes are used to provide extraneous information about a piece of information in your document • They can either provide further explanation or link to a source where more information can be found • Footnote generation is done through the References tab

  6. Footnotes • In the Consistency section, add a footnote with the following text after the word “locations.” • Kaylene Durocher, “ABCs of Web Site Consistency,” Web Site Magazine 7 (2005): 33-34. • In the yellow section of text in the Appropriate Background, add a footnote after the word “resolutions.” • Cheyenne Kinyon, “Color, Background, and Themes: Making Wise Decisions,” Web Guidelines and Conventions Monthly 12 (2005): 166-167.

  7. Quick Parts and Headers/Footers • Quick Parts are variables inside Microsoft Word that hold specific pieces of information such as the document title or author name • By using quick parts, you can modify the contents of said variables once and the changes will be reflected wherever that quick part is used elsewhere in the document

  8. Quick Parts and Headers/Footers • Create a new header • Inside this header we wish to display the name of the document, the author, and the page number. • You may need to change the author name to display the correct name • File Tab -> Document Properties

  9. Captions • When including multimedia elements in your documents, it is always a good idea to provide a brief description about the image/movie • Captions can be introduced by choosing Add Caption in the context menu • Add appropriate captions to the images in the document

  10. Equation Editor • Newer versions of Word can display mathematical formulas in a way which preserves operators and other markup • After the word “formula” in the Availability section add the following formula using the equation editor:

  11. Bibliographies • MS Word can generate Bibliographies or Works Cited pages for you automatically if you maintain your sources in the Source Manager.
