Chain of Events Russia gets involved to protect Serbia-July 29-December 9 August 1, 1914- Germany declares war on Russia to protect Austria-Hungary August 3, 1914- France enters the war to fight Germany and Austria-Hungary August 4, 1914- Germany attacks France through Belgium (neutral) causing Great Britain to declare war.
