Background • The social service sector is basically a human service, many NGOs have accumulated : • a lot of specific knowledge and • valuable experiences in their operations • To encourage an knowledge sharing in the social ser, HKCSS is building an online knowledge management and sharing platform for the Sector –called: Information Portal for the Social Service Sector 「社福知識網」

  4. Background • The project is mainly funded by the Office of Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and HKCSS. • IPSSS would be launched on end of December 2009. • Target users - social workers, social work students, other social work related practitioners, and interested public.

  5. Objectives • Providing the Sector with an open platform for knowledge sharing. • Turning vast information to vast asset. • Enhancing the Sector’s capacity. • To make the HKCSS’s vast information more visible and accessible.

  6. Characterizes • IPSSS makes use of the latest Web 2.0, it is a web-based application. • IPSSS support English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. • The content of the system would be accessible by the people with disabilities. • With the platform, users are able to accumulate information, share resources, and participate in discussions in interested topics.

Functions • Member Area • All information is categorized to different service area (user group), some information only can be accessed by members. • User type: • Guest – can read the public information only. • Member – can read, share and participate discussion based on their group and access rights. • Member can subscribe their interested service area (user group) to access more information. • Member can own their individual blog. • The membership is totally free.

Functions • Document Library • All documents are stored under predefined categories. • Members can browse or access the materials. • Members can submit the documents (such as Words, Excel, Video, Sound Clips, etc) to the Document Library. • Members can also promote, rate and make comments to the documents. • Discussion Forum • The Discussion Forum allows authorized members to create, discuss, share and respond to posts in predefined categorized knowledge areas.

  11. Functions • Voting • Users can participate in online voting. • Results of voting could be displayed for immediate reference. • Survey • To collect valuable opinions and recommendations, IPSSS supports an online survey feature. • Authorized members can participate in online survey.

Functions • Thematic BLOG • The thematic BLOG can be used to share and update important events and happenings in the Social Service Sector. • It could facilitate communication, improve the transparency and enhance knowledge sharing for important social events. • Individual BLOG • Authorized users are allowed to create individual blogs to share the interesting facets of their work or life interests.

Functions • Search Function • Support two type of search functions: an integrated search and an advanced search. • Users can initiate efficient searches for information throughout the portal, including the discussion forums, document library, blogs, survey and voting areas, etc., by the built-in sophisticated search engine. • Other Features • Really Simple Syndication (RSS) • Website BookMark • Integrated with Social Service Information Kit (SWIK) Website to search all social service organizations information (http://www.swik.org.hk)
