Overview • Multidisciplinary approach to developing innovative solutions for improving a salient global health problem • Planning Committee • UNC • Duke • NC State • TGHC • 5 schools competing • UNC – 5 teams • Duke – 5 teams • NC State – 5 teams • Wake Forest – 1 team • Meredith – 1 team • Team Deliverable: • 12 minute PowerPoint presentation – due 8:30am Saturday via flash drive • 1st place team $1,500 • 2nd place team $500

Rules • Do not discuss the case or the presentation with other teams, students not participating in the competition, or other UNC faculty members during the competition week • 1 hour with your mentor • Encouraged to use library, internet, course notes/text, etc. • Questions are welcome, responses will be shared with everyone – knbrugh@email.unc.edu • Presentation due Saturday morning via flash drive • You may not view another team’s presentation until after you have delivered your own

  6. 2011 Case Packet Improving Child Health in Afghanistan • Submit a proposal aimed at REDUCING THE RATE OF UNDER-5 CHILDHOOD MORTALITY BY 2/3 BY 2015 • MDG4 • Role – NGO currently working in Afghanistan • Budget $15 million over the course of 4 years

Deliverable • 12 minute PowerPoint presentation • 8 minutes Q&A with the judges • Bring 4 COPIES (printed) of your slides for members of the judging panel • Each judge will score presentation using the rubric provided at the beginning of the case packet • 25% Proposal creativity and innovation • 25% Rationale and justification • 25% Delivery of proposed solution(s) • 25% Clarity and organization
