  1. Welcome Back to School Ms. Barrett’s Classroom Gatesville High School Hornet Fight Never Dies!!

  2. WHAT ARE PROCEDURES AND WHYDO WE HAVETHEM? A procedure is the way that we do things. To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. To cook a delicious meal, you need to follow the steps in the recipe. To place a call on your phone, you need to inputthe numbers in the correctorder. So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

  3. Classroom Expectations 1. Come to class with all required supplies every day. 2.  Enter the room quietly, be seated, and begin the daily warm-up. 3. Listen to and follow directions the first time. 4.  Use appropriate language and good manners at all times. 5.  Treat others as you want to be treated.

  4. Coming In To Class • Make sure you have all required supplies before you come to class. • Enter the classroom quietly. • Go directly to your desk. • Begin the daily warm-up.

  5. RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS • Immediately start the warm-up. • When you finish, wait quietly for the next instruction.

  6. DURING INSTRUCTION • Listen to the teacher with full attention. • No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. • You will be given time for taking notes during instruction. • Raise your hand if you wish to speak. • Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. • After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

  7. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING • Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. • If you didn’t understand, ask more questions. • Respect each other and be friendly. • Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

  8. IF THE TEACHER RAISESHER HAND (GIVE ME FIVE) • Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. • Face the teacher and wait silently. • Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised her hand. • No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

  9. When You Think You Are Finished • Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. • If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. • If it is not due until later, keep it.

  10. DISMISSAL • Do not put away materials until you are told. • When you are told “It’s time to put up”, listen for instructions about what to do with your assignment, then clean your work area, but do not take all of your trash to the trash canuntil you are leaving the room. • Wait for Ms. Barrett to dismiss you. The bell ringing does NOT dismiss you. When everyone is ready to leave I will say, “Bye”. You will walk quietly out of the room dropping your trash into the trash can as you exit the room.

  11. Assignments • You must come to class with your assignment completed. • A missed assignment will get a call home. • Late work will be accepted until Friday of the week it is due. 50% credit will be given for late work. If a late assignment has not been turned in by the time I leave school on Friday, the student will receive the test score over that assignment, minus 20 points. • EACH MISSED ASSIGNMENT STILL MUST BE DONE. • It is your job to come to class prepared daily. It is your job to get work that was assigned while absent.

  12. WHEN YOU ARE TARDY • Go to your seat quietly after you have signed in. • You will not be excused from any work you missed. Get the work from a classmate and do it at homeor come by after school or before school.

  13. WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT • Get the assignments from your classmates and any worksheet from the worksheet folder. Do the work at homeor in classbefore or after school. • If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform me and arrange a time to make up the test before or after school, or during first period, my planning periodbefore the next Friday. • You have 3 days to make-up a missed assignment due to absence. After 3 days it is late.

  14. GRADES Grading Policy • Tests/Projects 50% • Daily assignments/Quizzes50%

  16. BarrettCodebased on The Essential 55 When responding to any adult, you answer by saying “Yes, Ma’am” or “No, Sir”. 4. During discussions, respect other students’ comments, opinions and ideas. 8. Do not smack your lips, sigh, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures. 9. Always say,” Thank you”, when given something. 20. While you are with a substitute teacher, you will obey the same rules that you follow when your teacher is with you.

  17. 30. After you eat, clean up after yourself. 37. If someone bumps into you, even if it is not your fault, say, “Excuse me.” 48. If any student in this school is bothering you, let a teacher know. Your teachers are here to look after you and protect you. 53. No matter what the circumstances, always be honest. Even if you have done something wrong, it is best to admit it, because you will gain respect and often disciplinary measures will be less because of your honesty.
