Student Learning Objectives 401 October 2012 Lisa Epolito Rosanna DiMillo Sandell
Updates Since SLO 301 SLOs written & approved by November 1, 2012 Students will be linked to teachers who teach 200 consecutive calendar days or more in a school year Principals should have list of all staff with required SLO courses/subjects
SLO Components Student Population Learning Content Interval of Instructional Time Evidence Baseline Target(s) HEDI Criteria Rationale
STUDENT POPULATION • Identify the total # of students in the class • Identify # of: • Students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) • Students with a Section 504 Plan with a Program • Students eligible for free OR reduced lunch • Students who are identified as ESL
LEARNING CONTENT Identify any areas in the subject or course that the students performed poorly on during the pre-assessment (create a bulleted list)
INTERVAL OF INSTRUCTIONAL TIME • CHOOSE THE ONE THAT APPLIES: • Full year course • Semester long course • 10 week course
EVIDENCE SLO Pre-Assessment OPTIONAL – A list of other assessments used to assess student’s skill levels at the beginning of the course
BASELINE • What is the starting level of learning for the students in the course (refer to Chart A). This will be written using percentages. • Ex: My group of students scored at 43% accuracy on the pre-assessment • Must pre-assess all students included in the SLO before figuring the baseline score
TARGET • What is the expected outcome or performance of the group of students at the end of the course? • Use Chart A to make this determination • Example: 25 students in class, 24% special population strive for highly effective old chart – 85% of 90% 19 new chart – 76.5% 19 • Remember to consider the need for weighting if a teacher has more than one SLO
HEDI Criteria • Based on District and LEA/LASA negotiated formulas: • Highly Effective: score of 18-20 • Effective: score of 9-17 • Developing: score of 3-8 • Ineffective: score of 0-2
RATIONALE Why choose the learning content, evidence & target? Should be consistently worded for teachers of the same subject or course and/or grade level.
