MEET YOUR FOREFATHERS:The History of the Battle BATTLE SPREADS THROUGH THE COUNTY: After two years of local battles, Essrig, along with Elementary Media & Technology, decided to pilot a District Battle of the Books. The participating schools were Apollo Beach, Buckhorn, Cannella, Claywell, Essrig and Schwarzkopf. Essrig Elementary became the first Champion of the District Battle of the Books. THE BATTLE LIVES ON TODAY: During the following school year of 1995 – 1996, the Battle of the Books was opened to all schools in Hillsborough County.
