  2. Childhood • Born on January 12, 1893 in Rosenheim, Bavaria • Full Name: Hermann Wilhelm Goering • Born To: Heinrich Ernst and Franziska Goering

  3. World War I • He was a Fokker plane pilot. • He was the leader of many pilot groups like Jagdstaffel 27 and the Richthofen Group. • He was awarded the Iron Cross. Iron Cross

  4. After the War • He became a Showflierin Sweden and Denmark. • He met his wife, Baroness Karin von Fock-Kantzow. • He became a member of the Nazi Party after listening to one of Hitler’s speeches. Showflier Plane

  5. World War II • Hitler appointed him commander of the SA Brownshirts. • A Nazi terrorist group made to intimidate or brutalize anybody who stood in their way. • He became Hitler’s designated successor. SA Brownshirts

  6. World War II continued… • He was the founder of the Gustapo. • The Nazi secret police. • He helped Hitler rise to power. • Along with Himmler and Heydrich, he set up the first concentration camps. Gestapo Officers

  7. Goering and Jews • In November 1938, Goering fined Jews 1 billion dollars for the damages Nazis caused. • His ideas led to the 1942 WannseeConference. • This attempted to make an extermination of 11 million Jews.

  8. Goering’s Titles • Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe • Oberbefehlshaker de Luftwaffe • President of Reichstag • Prime Minister of Prussia • Hitler’s designated successor • 2nd man in the Third Reich • Commander of SA Brownshirts

  9. End of the War • Goering began to lose favor of Hitler after the Battle of Britain. • He became addicted to drugs and went crazy. • After Hitler killed himself Goering fled Germany. He surrendered to the US Army in Austria on May 8, 1945. Battle of Britain

  10. Nuremburg Trials • He was trialed and found guilty of: • Conspiracy • Crimes against peace • War crimes • Crimes against humanity • He was sentenced to be executed. • Two hours before his execution he committed suicide by swallowing Potassium Cyanide(Oct. 15, 1946).
