Vision Adoraim Valley - Renewing Energy for Peace
Objective Local financial development through cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians in the Adoraim Valley area.
Reasoning • The Adoraim Valley is a small rural area where joint cooperation is not achieved due to political restrictions. • An area run with absence of financial efficiency: • Products are not used in the optimal way. • Lack of synergy between two populations that aspire toward development. • Finished products are marketed at high cost without utilizing the available market. Conclusions • The area holds an unfulfilled financial potential as a result of parallel activities in two non-cooperating, closed markets (Israeli and Palestinian). • A bridging body is needed in order to identify new opportunities for joint development.
Background(Conclusions from a 2009 study in the Beit Awwa area) • A need to improve water usage for agriculture and for private consumption. • A need to improve the condition of the land available for agriculture. • A need to repair (and expand) the use of hothouses in agriculture (only 4 Dunham used at present). • The village has over 9,000 Dunham available for processing, of which only 5,226 are processed (“dry farming”). • Manpower of 5,557 men, of which only 30% are employed (1,684). • Among the employed men, only 8% work in agriculture. • Only 70% of the households are connected to the electricity grid (of Israel).
Developing the areas of partnership • A project to develop solar energy to be used mutually in the Israeli and Palestinian side. • Home workshops of production for the Israeli market (Micro Workshops). • A joint Internet project (Conflict Zone Neighbors). • Agriculture areas – knowledge and produce: • Bees • Hothouses • Wynyard • Olives • A cultural project.
