Day of The Dead Altars By: Max Molnar
What they are • Day of the Dead altars are built by family and friends in houses or by tombstones in remembrance of the dead • The altars are used to welcome the spirits back to the living world
What they put on altars • Marigold is a traditional flower that is used to honor the dead • Incense is used to clear the bad energy • Water to refresh the dead (or in my case tea) • Favorite foods, seasonal fruits and dead bread(I did not include this) traditionally Mexicans put mole, tamales and hot chocolate. • Candles to represent light, faith and hope. • A photo on top of whom the altar is dedicated to • Sugar Skulls are used to hype up the waking spirits • Things liked by the person in context such as toys or personal items • Paper cuttings • Ect.
What I have on mine • Tea and Honey and Carrot cake Clif Bar • A motorcycle book • A picture • Incense candles • Roses as a substitute for marigold • Drawings • Pictures
Construction process • First I got a laundry basket and flipped it upside-down • Then put a black blanket over it • Next I got an empty xbox box and placed it on top of the laundry basket then put a blanket over that • Then placed food and candles • Then I added fake black roses (at the bottom) and a real rose at the top • And finally added the pictures at the bottom and lit candles
