The Addenbrooke’s Clinical Research Centre (ACRC), Cambridge Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (WTCRF) & Clinical Investigation Ward (CIW) Background Established in 2001 to strengthen clinical research in the NHS Designed to be flexibly multipurpose and suitable for a wide range of healthcare research Aim To provide purpose-built, dedicated clinical research facilities for use by the local research community where patients/volunteers can participate in high quality research programmes safely and effectively according to robust, ethically approved trial protocols Add photo • Safety & Quality • Each study is scrutinized for safety, ethics, • scientific merit and feasibility before being • accepted to take place on the unit • The unit adheres to stringent NHS Research • Governance rules • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for • interventions are established and followed • Compliance with the Clinical Research gold • standard of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) • Contributing to and complying with Trust • audits, e.g. in infection control, patient • experience and nursing documentation Services Participants and researchers using the unit are supported by nursing, scientific, dietetic, administrative and laboratory services, and have access to the full range of clinical and non-clinical services of the Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust. Nursing and Clinical Staff from the unit are: - exclusively employed for research duties and activities associated with the conduct of high quality research, - recruited from a broad variety of clinical backgrounds, - competent in a range of clinical skills, - providing a high staff to participant/patient ratio, - providing a dedicated lead and associate lead from the ACRC nursing team The unit provides care and infrastructure to support overnight and day-case studies.
