History. Joan of Arc’s ashes were thrown into the river after the burning of the stake in 1431. (Off the Mathilde Bridge at Rouen. Napoleon put that he wanted to be buried on the banks of the Seine in his will when he died in 1821.

  1. History • Joan of Arc’s ashes were thrown into the river after the burning of the stake in 1431. (Off the Mathilde Bridge at Rouen. • Napoleon put that he wanted to be buried on the banks of the Seine in his will when he died in 1821. • Summer Olympics 1900, the Seine hosted the rowing, swimming, and water polo events. (24 years later hosted rowing again.

  2. History cont… • 1944, Operation Overlord. One of the Allie’s goals was to reach the Seine within 90 days of D-Day. • Paris Massacre of 1961, victims of this bloody feud were drowned. (Thrown off Point-Michel) • Bodies of suicide victims are often found. • Bodies of homicide victims are often found in the river as well.

  3. Uses • The Seine is used to carry petroleum and building products. • Major highway for goods. • Connects Paris to ports and ports in other countries. • The Seine powers nuclear and thermal power stations.
