Powered FlightSyllabus #2 CAP O-Rides Squadron 85
Normal Flight Maneuvers • The orientation pilot will perform the following maneuvers at a minimum altitude of 2,500 feet AGL
Aircraft Stability • After trimming for level flight, point out the stability of the airplane in hands off flight • Elevator trim – most common • Assists with pitch / altitude control • Tab on elevator • Tab goes up, elevator goes down, plane goes down • Acts as an extra hand • Balanced forces
Attitude Flying • Climb attitude • Horizon lower in the windshield • Attitude • The view out the windshield
Trim and Checkpoints • Demonstrate use of trim controls and straight flying to a checkpoint using visual references
Forces of Flight • Discuss the effects of lift, drag, and gravity on the airplane
Lift Theory • Discuss the relationship of lift, angle of attack, and relative wind • Higher angle of attack creates more lift (to a point) • Higher angle of attack increases drag
Turns • Demonstrate a shallow banked turn and point out how the airplane will maintain the turn with controls neutral • Shallow turns less than 30 degrees • Usually about 15 degrees • First line to either side of neutral on the attitude indicator
Loads during turns • Explain load factor during turns
