  3. Theatre Nicolo Piccinni

  4. This theatre was built in 1854 on the memory of Nicolo Piccinni. Niccolo Piccinni’s father didn’t want him to study music so he had to pay his music studies himself. He worked and studied in Napoli and he became one of the best composers. Also he played in the palace of Marie Antoniette during the French Revolution. He produced funny music. =)

  5. THEATRE MARGHERITA

  6. It was built between 1912 and 1914 in Liberty Style. Its restoration took several years. During the restoration there were lots of exhibitions of contemporary art.

  7. THEATRE PETRUZZELLI

  8. It is the most famous and the biggest theatre in Bari and the 4th biggest in Italy. It was built in between 1898 and 1903. It has a sad and famous story. There was a big fire on the night of 26th October in 1991. The people were very sad and shocked when they learned it was burnt.Nobody knows what happened. This year the restoration is completely finished and in October, 2009 there was a premiere and many plays and celebrations were held.The local TV broadcasted the premiere live.

  9. PALAZZO MINCUZZI (MINCUZZI PALACE)

  10. Mincuzzi is the name of an old important building in Bari. And this building is the symbol of change. Because the building used to be a very expensive shop.It failed and went bankrupt. Now it is used as the building of United Colors of Benetton. It was built during the Murat period. Murat was Napoleon’s brother-in-law and he governed in Bari in 1830. During his period lots of important buildings and palaces were built.

  11. PIAZZA FERRAESE- Via Appia- Traiana ( PIAZZA SQUARE- Appia Traiana Str.)

  12. It was built by the Romans in 108-110 A.C. It was an important road which was used to pass through the province of Bari.

  13. The ruins of Appia Traiana Road are in the square of Piazza del Ferrarese which is famous for Movida.

  14. COLONNA DELLA GIUSTIZIA (THE COLUMN OF JUSTICE)

  15. In the past they used to tie people who didn’t pay their depts and they threw anything to them.The lion symbolizes justice of which it is the guardian.

  16. CHIESA DI SAN NICOLA ( St. Nicholas Church)

  17. Before going round the column young women who wanted to get married used to have hot chocolate and savoiardi ( sweet biscuits ) for breakfast.Saint Nicholas is believed to help them to get married.Today he is considered Saint protector of spinsters and sailors.
