  2. How to identify tansy ragwort! • The plants stem is Stout slightly spreading & it could be branched. • Dark green on top & whitish green underneath. • Each flower cluster develops on a stout. • Has bright yellow petals • Unpleasant odor

  3. Where does Tansy Ragwort grow? • Found in drier regions of Western U.S.A • Mostly found in pastures, trails & along roads • Germinates in Fall • Found in Europe

  4. Why is it dangerous? • The plant gives off alkaloids which is various organic compounds normally with basic chemical properties • Alkaloids produce liver damage if they eat 50- 150lbs • In the liver it causes the cells to expand and die

  5. Symptoms! • there is no evidence of consumption until signs of liver failure begin to appear Other Signs: ~ weakness ~ high temperature ~ in coordination ~ yellow mucus membranes

  6. Treatments! • No known antidote for this alkaloid base • Call a vet immediately for supportive treatment.

  7. Noxious Weed • State prohibited noxious weed is dangerous to public health, environment, public roads, crops, livestock and other property
