Curriculum • Standards Based • Operations with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, positive and negative numbers • Use ratio, proportions, and percents • Work with expressions, equations, inequalities, linear functions, and graphs • Study geometry and right triangles, probability and statistics, perimeter, area and volume • Learn about nonlinear functions and polynomials
Homework • Math content builds on what has previously been mastered. It is essential to do daily assignments. • Assignments are posted in class as well as on our website. • Absences and late work are the students’ responsibility.
Grading System • Grades are 25% homework, class work, notebook, and extra credit, 25% quizzes, and 50% tests. A+ 100-98% A 97-93% A- 92-90% B+ 89-87% B 86-83% B- 82-80% C+ 79-78% C 77-73% C- 72-70% D+ 69-68% D 67-63% D- 62-60% F 59-0% • Citizenship grades are based upon compliance with the school and classroom rules. • Grades will be posted in the classroom. • You may also go to the link mygradebook.com to view grades.
How to Access Grades on the Internet • Go to www.mygradebook.com • In the Class Word field, enter the period you wish to view, followed by -deroads-0910. For example, period 1 would be, 1-deroads-0910. Click enter. • Enter your student’s school ID # in the Student Password Field. Click log in.
Expectations - Rules • All students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is conducive to creating a positive learning atmosphere for the entire class. • Rules • Follow directions the first time they are given • Be seated, ready to work BEFORE the bell rings • Keep hands, feet, objects to yourself • Bring necessary supplies to school each day • No putdowns, harassment or inappropriate language
Expectations - Rewards • Praise – Lots of it!! • Positive notes, reports, phone calls • Special Privileges (within school policy) • Special Motivators
Expectations - Consequences • First time a student disrupts – Verbal Warning • Second time a student disrupts – Behavior Log Entry and Behavior Form sent home for parent signature • Third time – Detention or time out in another class or Administrative Escort called. • Severe Administrator or designee sent to classroom to escort student immediately. Parent contacted.
How Parents Can Help • Please check to see that your student is writing down and completing daily assignments. Use the web site to double check on assigned work. • Ask questions about daily lessons, Can they explain what they learned to you? • Adequate SUPPLIES ARE ESSENTIAL. They MUST have paper, pencils, and a red correcting pen EVERY day. Please check their supplies on a regular basis.
